Byron Buckley, a former National Tennis Coach Of The Year, coached 15 IHSAA championship men's tennis teams, three IHSAA singles champions, four IHSAA doubles champions, seven IHSAA Mental Attitude Award winners, and 82 All-State players at North Central High School (Indianapolis, Indiana).
Buckley also established a successful tennis program at North Vernon High School (now Jennings County High School). Byron wrote a weekly column, "Off The Courts" for six years in the Nora Topics, an Indianapolis newspaper. The NHSACA selected Buckley as the National High School Tennis Coach of the Year in 1985. Byron was the first coach inducted into the IHSTCA Hall of Fame (1992) and posted an incredible 465-16 record at North Central High School.
A high school social studies teacher for 37 years, Buckley has also served as a guest lecturer for Purdue University and IUPUI.
Buckley and his wife, Elaine, have been married for thirty-seven years. They have three children- Tami, James, and Jeff. Byron and Elaine live outside of North Vernon, Indiana with their dog, friskey. Byron, now retired, is a Christian freelance writer, poet, and history buff.
